As part of efforts to strengthen economic and trade cooperation between Tunisia and fellow African countries, the Tunisian Trade Office received, on June 19, 2026, His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to Tunisia, resident in Algiers, in the presence of the Chief Executive Officer of the Tunisian Trade Office, as well as officials from the Office and the Ministry of Trade and Export Development.
The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the shared commitment of both countries to further develop bilateral cooperation and capitalize on existing legal and economic frameworks, particularly the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA ,ZLECAF), in order to support African economic integration and strengthen continental integration.

Promising Prospects for Trade Exchanges

A Ugandan Offer to Strengthen Tunisia’s Green Coffee Supply
The Ugandan side presented an offer aimed at developing cooperation with the Tunisian Trade Office in the field of green coffee imports, emphasizing the recognized quality of Ugandan coffee as well as its competitive pricing. The Ambassador also proposed several facilities for the benefit of the Office
Tunisia as a Regional Logistics Platform
Among the key proposals put forward during the meeting was the use of Tunisia as a regional logistics platform for the distribution of coffee and cocoa to neighboring markets, particularly Libya and Algeria, as well as to the European market, by leveraging Tunisia’s strategic geographical location and available infrastructure.
The Office Reaffirms Its Openness to Cooperation Opportunities
For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Tunisian Trade Office highlighted the quality of Tunisian products and their ability to establish a presence in the Ugandan market, particularly in the agri-food sector, as well as olive oil and dates.
He also welcomed the Ambassador’s proposal regarding the supply of green coffee to the Tunisia Trade Office, while recalling that the Office procures its green coffee requirements through international tenders in accordance with the regulations governing public procurement.
In this regard, he indicated that the Office had indeed imported an important quantity of Ugandan coffee during 2025 and 2026.
Towards a Structured and Sustainable Partnership
The Chief Executive Officer affirmed the Office’s willingness to examine all the proposals presented, whether related to coffee imports, the establishment of a logistics platform, or the development of trade exchanges, while emphasizing the importance of incorporating these initiatives into a formal cooperation framework and clear agreements between the two parties to ensure their effective implementation.
He also stressed that any future logistics platform should be located in Tunisia and serve as the exclusive gateway for supplying the targeted markets.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries and promoting African integration. The Ugandan side undertook to provide the Office with an additional list of Ugandan coffee suppliers in order to examine their possible inclusion in the network of approved suppliers of the Tunisian Trade Office.
