Tunisia is a rice-importing country, and the responsibility for ensuring a stable supply of this staple food has been entrusted to the Tunisian Trade Office (OCT). This mission forms part of a national strategy aimed at meeting the growing demand from Tunisian households as well as the food service and agri-food sectors.
Since its establishment in the 1960s, the Tunisian Trade Office (OCT) has established itself as the main — and often exclusive — player in the importation of green coffee into Tunisia. Its mission is to ensure a continuous supply to the national market, serving both household consumption and the needs of the food industry.
The importation of sugar by the Tunisian Trade Office (OCT) dates back to the post-independence period, in parallel with the establishment of the Tunisian Sugar Company in Béja. This initiative was driven by a strategic objective: to ensure a steady supply of sugar to meet national consumption needs.
The Tunisian state holds a monopoly on tea imports through the Tunisian Trade Office (OCT), which is the official body responsible for regulating and securing the national supply of this essential product, whether for industrial or household consumption.
The Tunisian Trade Office (OCT) plays a strategic support role in maintaining the balance of the domestic market by intervening, at the request of its supervising ministry, in the supply of conjunctural products.
