As part of Tunisia's ongoing efforts to diversify strategic partnerships and boost international economic cooperation, the Tunisian Office of Trade hosted a high-level delegation from Wuhan Financial Holding on Saturday, July 26, 2025. The visit aimed to explore opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, and logistics between Tunisia and China.

A working session was held with representatives from the OCT and several key public enterprises in which the OCT is a stakeholder, including the Meat Company, the Wholesale Markets Company, and the Ben Guerdane Free Logistics Zone Management Company. The session focused on potential joint projects in the fields of import-export and investment.

The visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the headquarters of the OCT, in the presence of Mr. Samir Abid, Minister of Trade and Export Development. The MoU outlined the following key cooperation areas:

  • Strengthening bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
  • Establishing a joint task force and designating official contact points.
  • Promoting trade in meat and seafood products, with China providing expertise and facilitating the import of high-quality beef and lamb to meet domestic demand, while supporting Tunisian seafood exports.
  • Supporting the development of modern national cold storage facilities in Tunisia with advanced infrastructure and management systems.
  • Advancing cooperation in free zone development, with plans to establish a dedicated logistics platform for “Wuhan Financial Holding” in Ben Guerdane Free Zone to facilitate re-export to Libya and African markets.
  • Enhancing Tunisian product exports to China by assisting eligible public enterprises in selecting products aligned with Chinese market needs.
  • Assisting Tunisian companies in improving agricultural equipment import procedures and developing modern packaging for food products such as tea, rice, and sugar, in line with technical standards.

This agreement represents a strategic milestone that highlights the pivotal role of the Tunisian Office of Trade in driving Tunisia’s economic diplomacy and strengthening its position as a reliable commercial partner regionally and internationally.
